Indian teams go through a test of strength, as the 2022 Chess Olympiad progresses to Round 4 of Chess Olympiad 2022 and Indian grandmasters face more draws. Indian teams recorded their first losses against Spain rated at 2700 in the open and Georgia rated at 2400 in the women’s category.

However it was a different show of strength from Team B in the Open, played by the youngsters, to beat Italy and once again make the Chess Olympiad 2022 a significant battlefield to their international rating.

In the game against India’s Gukesh, Italy’s Vocature went defensive, trying to save his knight, eventually losing to Gukesh, who preferred to trade off his rook to bishop for a checkmate. The game gained speed when Gukesh, playing white, taunted the black knight with his bishop, rook and queen, forcing the protective Vocature to save his knight. Choosing to save the knight, with a lone pawn, Vocature opened the field for the White bishop to enter the king’s castle. However he felt safe with a black rook standing guard. But Gukesh exchanged the rook for rook, letting his queen enter the castle for checkmate, forcing Vocature to resign.
