OTT (Over The Top) release has become a new normal for films. But the pandemic and lockdown made us realize the value of a theatrical release. The feel, thrill and pleasure of watching the star’s movie all provide a different experience. Pandemic has deprived us of this experience which we have been taking for granted.
Ajith Kumar’s fans were eagerly waiting for this year’s Pongal as the star’s new movie Valimai was to hit the theatres. But Omicron and the new restrictions put the brakes on such expectations.
As the situation was easing after the second wave last year, the government announced 100% occupancy of theatres for the last Deepavali. Rajinikanth’s Annatthe was released in the theatres. Criticism of the plot apart, the fans enjoyed the movie on the silver screen.
Ajith Kumar was in the news recently when he requested his fans not to address him as ‘Thala’. He asked them to call him Ajith Kumar or AK. Under these circumstances, the expectations remained high on his new film. Recently, the teaser of the film running for 1.27 mins was released. The teaser did not disappoint the fans with glimpses of the action sequences of the movie.
But Omicron and lockdown have left the fans high and dry. And, where else do the fans vent out their desperation? The meme creators turned this disappointment into an opportunity.
Meanwhile, the Omicron variant seems to be keeping the administration and health fraternity on their toes. The cases are going up steadily. Night curfew and Sunday lockdown have been implemented to curb the spread. Jallikattu season is likely to go on IPL mode without cheering crowds. Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu has been postponed. State assembly was curtailed to two days. The mask is back and the violators are penalized. Let’s stick to precautions for our own safety and well being.
