Global essay competition on Subramanya Bharati

Kalaimagal Magazine and Rajalakshmi Group of Institutions are organizing an essay competition on Subramany Bharati. The essay competition is conducted for non-residential Indian students. The topic of the competition is ‘Naan yen Bharatiyai Virumbugiren’ (Why do I like Bharati?).

The essays should be in Unicode not exceeding 500 words. And, the essays should be mailed to globalcompetitions2022@gmail.com’. The entries should reach the organizers before Feb. 15, 2022. Ten of the best essays will be awarded a cash prize while certificates will be issued to all the students participating in the competition.

Kalaimagal Magazine, celebrating 90 years anniversary this year, was helmed by the doyens of Tamil literature U Ve Swaminatha Iyer and Ki Va Ja. Kalaimagal published the collections of Bharati’s works in the 1940s. Periasamy Tooran collected those works.

Kalaimagal later published Bharati’s handwritten poems in 1978. Bharati presented that poem to Raja of Ettayapuram and Bharati’s brother Viswanathan provided it to Kalaimagal. Rajalakshmi Group of Institutions was started in Chennai as Rajalakshmi Engineering College with 180 students in 1997. The founder Meganathan’s vision has turned the college into a group of institutions over the period.

Meanwhile, the state government is planning for year long events in view of Subramanya Bharati’s centenary this year. A state level poem competition titled Bharati Ilamkavignar for the students. A boy and girl will be selected for the cash award of Rs 1 lakh.

Tamil Nadu government is also going to release the selected works of Bharati titled ‘Manathil Uruthi Vendum’ and this book will be distributed to 37 lakh students in Tamil Nadu. More such competitions are likely to be held during this year.
