S V Sekar given bail by the chief magistrate court in Egmore.
Comedian & Ex- MLA S V Sekar who shared an Facebook post degrading women journalists was given bail the chief magistrate court in Egmore on Wednesday. He had been charged with spreading rumour and insult leading to breach of peace, criminal intimidation and so on. Sekar approached for anticipatory bail in High Court on 10 May 2018 but Justice Ramathilagam rejected the bail plea. Many journalists and advocates opposed his bail plea, too. Justice Ramathilagam ordered the police “to proceed with the case in the same way as they are investigating with any other common man”.
S Ve Sekar appeared before Supreme Court and the court ordered him to get bail through the Chief Magistrate Court since chargesheet had been filed by the TN police. With the SC order, he appeared in Chief Magistrate court, egmore and bail was given to him by Judge Mazharvizhi with surety of 2 people. He will appear before the court next on July 18.
Tamil Nadu police have arrested Mansoor Ali Khan, activist Valarmathy, Piyush Manush for being against the government though no FIR was filed. State and central governments were acting in favour of S Ve Sekar by not arresting him despite filing a chargesheet, says Arun Kumar an advocate who interviened in this case.
