Sterlite needed about 700 acres to build Unit 2 of its existing copper smelter plant. After the government allotted it 324.5 acres in Thoothukudi’s SIPCOT Phase 2, the company had sought more land for the expansion. Now, the extra land sought for the purpose has been re-allotted to an International Furniture Park, putting a spoke in the wheel of Sterlite’s expansion.
