Deputy Chief Minister and AIADMK co-ordinator, confirming the news of his meeting with rebel leader T T V Dhinakaran, said he was loyal to the party and had no plans to oust Edappadi Palaniswamy and take over the chief ministership of the State.

At a hastily arranged press conference at his residence in Chennai on October 5 night, OPS was forced to issue a clarification after reports of the meeting with Dhinakaran and a mediator meeting both of them, emerged this morning.

Inmathi.com was among the first to report earlier in the day about this meeting. A couple of AIADMK ministers denied the meeting but rumours persisted of a mediator trying to arrange another meeting between OPS and Dhinakaran, leader of the breakaway AIADMK group called the AMMK.

OPS confirmed the meeting that took place in 2017 but said he regretted having met Dhinakaran as he did not repent for his actions. OPS said he had agreed to meet Dhinakaran then merely to find out if he had changed, and whether he would co-operate with the party.

Panneerselvam said he was not interested in the post of CM as he had already occupied the chair three times something which their leader Jayalalithaa had provided for him. “That is enough for me”, said OPS and denied that he had offered a huge sum of money to Dhinakaran to seek his support to become CM again.

News of some mediators talking to both Dhinakaran and OPS regarding unity between the two camps has been making the rounds all day.

OPS criticized Dhinakaran for trying to create confusion in the AIADMK, and for trying to use money power to try and bring down the AIADMK government.

The leak of the goings-on in the two camps had clearly jolted the AIADMK, at a time when the judgment is expected in the 18 MLAs disqualification case.

Dhinakaran had claimed earlier in the day that a mediator had approached him on behalf of OPS, offering support to Dhinakaran, and that the two could work together to bring about an alternative government. Dhinakaran said OPS had even offered to make him chief minister.
