Karunanidhi health condition worsens, relatives flock to hospital

The condition of DMK president and former chief minister M Karunanidhi deteriorated on Monday, August 6, 2018, even as doctors admitted that there was a dip.

Karunanidhi is undergoing treatment at the Cauvery hospital in Chennai. He was moved to the hospital ICU on July 27 after his pulse rate and BP dropped. Ever since, there has been a regular stream of visitors to the hospital including President and Vice-president, Union ministers, chiewf ministers Chandrababu Naidu, Pinari Vijayan, V Narayanaswamy, TN chief ministers Edappadi Palaniswami among others.

His health improved a few days ago after steps were taken to normalize his pulse rate and BJP. The doctors were also considering moving him to his residence at Gopalapuram nearby.

However, there was a deterioration in his health on August 6 morning, after which his relatives, M K Stalin and M K Azhagiri, daughter Kanimozhi, his wives Dayalu and Rajathi Ammal, were among those who visited the hospital.

Karunanidhi’s wife Dayalu visited the hospital for the first time in ten days. She herself has not been keeping good health.

Kauvery hospital, in a medical bulletin released on August 6 evening, said, There has been a decline in the medical condition of Dr Kalaignar M Karunanidhi, DMK President and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Maintaining his vital organs continues to remain a challenge considering his age related ailments”.

“He is on continuous monitoring and being treated with active medical support. His response to the medical interventions over the ext 24 hours will determine the prognosis”, the bulletin added.
