In a quick damage-control exercise following wide negative publicity on social media, DMK volunteers moved to ensure that the potholes left on the road by their banners on Anna Nagar were repaired. Its MLA J Anbazhagan apologised for it. The party working president has asked volunteers to ensure that no banners or digital boards are installed during public meetings that would affect commuters and the public. But, social activist and campaigner Traffic Ramaswamy is skeptical of the DMK.
Do you doubt DMK’s intentions?
Yes, I feel it is all a drama. They are trying to deceive the people. All these years, they have been installing billboards and cloth banners.
But Stalin has personally come out against the practice
Just a statement is not enough. He should stop going to such public meetings. Otherwise this is all just an eyewash.
What happened to the court ban on banners having pictures of the living?
No political party is following it. From Jayalalithaa to Karunanidhi through Seeman, Thirumavalavan as well as Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, they all talk one thing but do something else. I filed a contempt of court petition on the issue. I have filed a petition against the DMK. The hearing for that is coming on Thursday.
Why do you think laws are being disobeyed with impunity?
We can have all kinds of laws but we need someone to safeguard the laws. Our police force are highly corrupt. Then how can law and order sustain in such a situation.
Do you think people are with you?
Yes, of course. Those who disobey the law are anti-social elements. People are with me. They support me since I fight against injustice. The only solution for this is problem is deterrent punishment. Until then I will fight.
